QLA is dedicated to providing the best possible training for new lawyers and continuing education for more experienced attorneys. As such, QLA has created a program that includes expert training in criminal practice as well as in the collateral consequences that often accompany a criminal conviction.
QLA’s training program consists of in-house and in-court components. New attorneys receive company manuals that cover all aspects of criminal practice and provide guidance of civil law issues that overlap our criminal and family law practice.
The training includes an overview of collateral consequences; a critical component of any criminal practice. These include:
- Parole and Probation
- Family Court
- Sex Offender Registration
- Civil Commitment
- Sealing of court records
During the in-court portion of our training program, supervisory lawyers accompany attorneys to court and stay with them during all aspects of their court appearance. During the day, supervisory attorneys are always available for questions, advice, consultations, case management and assistance with trial preparation.
New attorneys are supervised by experienced QLA attorneys and are mentored to ensure that each attorney gets the individualized and hands-on training necessary for success.
In addition, the program works with other experienced individuals in the criminal justice field and related fields, to provide training sessions that cover a broad array of issues that affect our criminal and family law practice areas.
To ensure that each attorney is the most effective advocate possible for their clients, QLA training includes classroom sessions, mock trials and hearings, practice in making legal arguments, and off-site trial advocacy training programs.
Experienced attorneys are also included in regular training sessions to ensure that they are kept abreast of relevant legal developments.
The resources of the immigration Division, Major Trials Division and other resources that QLA has built over the years, ensure that defense attorneys have access to the expertise they need to address any and all issue that arise in our criminal and family law practice.
