Queens is the most diverse county in the United States, with a foreign-born population of more than 45 percent according to the 2010 U.S. Census. QLA’s Immigration Program consists of in-house immigration lawyers who work closely with clients and defense attorneys to address criminal charges. The program provides services that include direct representation in immigration detention and deportation, obtaining immigration benefits such as a green card, assisting immigrants to apply for U.S. citizenship, as well as educating those criminally charged about the immigration consequences of pleading guilty or going to trial. QLA’s immigration attorneys represent QLA clients before the Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, Federal District Court, and the Second Circuit of Appeals. QLA believes in protecting and promoting the rights of immigrant communities through community outreach, community education, and working with local community organizations, religious institutions, and neighborhood schools.
